Greetings and Welcome to the Twelfth Edition of Our Newsletter!
明けましておめでとうございます!2025年、今年は乙巳、木の蛇の年です! Happy New Year! In 2025, this year is Itsumi, the Year of the Wooden Snake!
Over the past year, I relocated my dojo to a new location, made two training trips to Japan, and had the honor of teaching a seminar in Finland.
This year marks 乙巳 (Itsumi), the Year of the Wooden Snake—a particularly special year for me. Born in 1965, another cycle of the 60-year Jikkan Jūnishi has come full circle, symbolizing renewal and rebirth.
This year is significant for many reasons:
- I will celebrate my 60th birthday in October.
- I’ve been training in martial arts for over 40 years.
- My first trip to Japan and the founding of my dojo both happened 35 years ago.
- I received my Yūshū Shihan Menkyō 10 years ago (Dai Shihan followed 8 years ago).
- I’ve participated in 22 Taikai with Hatsumi Sōke worldwide.
- I’ve made 51 training trips to Japan to learn directly from the source.
Apologies if this seems self-indulgent, but it’s my newsletter—and this year is worth celebrating! With that in mind, I’m thrilled to announce our next Taikai, which will commemorate these milestones. It will be called:

武神館兜龍還暦大会
BUJINKAN TORYU KANREKI TAIKAI STOCKHOLM - OCTOBER 17-19
I plan to invite several instructors to help me teach this seminar. However, I am not advertising the instructors to attract particular fan groups. Instead, I will keep their identities secret as a surprise for attendees.
I’ve often heard people mention how much they miss the KAIGOUSURU TAIKAI events I organized between 1997 and 2007. Many of you may not have been training back then, but now is your chance to experience another “Training Party.” Don’t miss this Taikai – you might regret it later!
I am committed to making this event accessible and memorable. I plan to keep the training fee low and will invite several people with free tickets. All Bujinkan Dai Shihan are welcome to attend without any cost.
To demonstrate my dedication to this event, for every seminar fee paid, I will personally match it by spending twice as much to ensure the seminar’s quality and success. Let’s make this a truly special gathering for everyone involved.

Bujinkan Toryu Theme
My theme for training this year is KOTO-RYŪ KOPPŌJUTSU, which is one of my favourite schools for Taijutsu
As some of you know, I work in shifts, so I can only train on my days off. When I’m working, other Dai Shihan are holding down the fort at Kaigōzan Dōjō. Here are the dates I’ll be training this fall:
- January: 9, 21, 28, 30
- February: 6, 18, 25, 27
- March: 6, 18
- #JAPANTRIP52 (March 22-April 6)

The Holland Taikai 1996: A Historic Bujinkan Seminar
In May 1996, the serene coastal town of Noordwijkerhout in the Netherlands became the epicenter of a martial arts milestone: the Holland Taikai 1996. Over three days, martial artists from across the globe gathered to train under the legendary Masaaki Hatsumi, the 34th Sōke of the Togakure-ryū and founder of the Bujinkan organization…

Put Your Heart and Soul into Consistent Martial Training
My master often spoke of his teacher’s belief in the importance of consistent martial training. He shared stories of his teacher’s journey, how he devoted himself to a level of practice that went beyond physical skill to shape his spirit and mind. Much like traditional Kabuki actors who sustain their roles off-stage, his master insisted that training be an integral, daily practice…

Passion as the Source of Training Motivation
In martial arts, passion as the Source of Training Motivation. This “heat of passion” transforms training from a mechanical repetition of techniques into a journey toward mastery. Without this energy, your training can stagnate, failing to reach the true essence of the art. Just as iron loses its potential when it cools before being fully forged, a martial artist loses purpose without the fire of passion…

YUDANSHA BOOK
I have only written one public book, and it is the YUDANSHA book. I got very good feedback from many prominent Bujinkan teachers including Hatsumi Soke. The book covers all the Taijutsu techniques I think every 5'th Dan should know by heart.
The book is only available from Lulu!
Below is two pages from the book as an example. It is available in a few different formats and bindings.
We collected nearly 2000 articles and essays from the most well known Instructors of the Bujinkan Dojo since 2005.
